2007 07 14 Restoration of the H960 Cabinet

I decided to take a little break from restoring computers, and wanted to clean up the H960 cabinet that I got. It's the same story as the PDP-8/M restoration -- lots of sanding and spraypainting.

Washing down the H960 Cabinet S M L XL

As with any restoration, the first step is washing. Here I just used plain ordinary hot water; no soap or anything, just wanted to give things a good cleaning. (Yes, the stupid pelican logo came off -- without any marks!, and no it wasn't some kind of DEC mascot as my wife initially thought :-))

Plenty of Rust in the H960 S M L XL

As you can see, there was plenty of rust in the cabinet. Most of it was concentrated near the bottom -- the top of the cabinet is pristine.

How to Wash the Top of an H960 S M L XL

Ladders? Nah, just tip the damn thing over! That's the easiest way to wash the top of a cabinet :-)

Here's a detail of the sanding of the back frame of the H960 cabinet. My goal was just to get the majority of the rust off.

A Professional Looking Job Including Driveway Painting S M L XL

Finally! A freshly painted H960, looking like new, and a nice set of marks on the driveway! D'oh!

A few pieces of masking tape are still in place where I didn't want the spraypaint to go. Obviously, placing newspapers under the cabinet would have been the correct thing to do.
